BUILD 3 LITTLE APPS YOU'LL ACTUALLY USE.

If you only ask AI to write emails, you’re missing the fun part. You can ask Claude to make a small interactive tool for a problem you have today. Here are the three apps from my video, with prompts you can copy and make your own.

YOUR FIRST BUILD, IN 3 STEPS
  1. Open Claude on the web and start a new chat. Ask for an interactive Artifact using one prompt below.
  2. When the preview appears, try it with a few test entries. Tell Claude what you want changed in normal words.
  3. Export a backup before relying on it. Check whether your entries are still there when you return.

You can create an Artifact in a Claude chat on the Free plan. Data storage inside an Artifact may depend on your plan and setup, so each prompt asks for export and import as a backup. A first version can be quick; getting it exactly right usually takes a few follow-up messages.

The expense tracker

See where your money went this month, with a category chart and a warning before you cross your budget.

Create a working interactive Claude Artifact called “Where Did My Money Go?” Build the app now and show me a preview. I do not code.

What it does:
- Let me enter an expense with date, amount, category, and optional note. Start with categories Food, Home, Transport, Subscriptions, and Other; let me rename or add categories.
- Let me set a monthly budget in EUR and change it later. Show total spent, amount remaining, and spending by category for the selected month.
- Show a simple chart. Warn me at 80% of my monthly budget and when I go over it. Make the warning clear, never scary.
- Let me edit and delete entries, switch months, and see an empty state when there are no expenses.
- Use a clean mobile-friendly layout with readable labels and large tap targets.

Data: Save entries between visits if this Artifact supports storage. Also give me Export JSON and Import JSON buttons so I can keep a backup. Do not send my entries to an external service. Start empty; any example data must be clearly marked as demo data.

Before you finish, test adding an expense, editing it, switching months, crossing the 80% threshold, and exporting/importing a backup. If a feature cannot work here, tell me exactly which one and give me a usable alternative.

The macro log

Log meals and see the numbers you entered add up for the day. Set your own targets.

Create a working interactive Claude Artifact called “My Macro Log.” Build the app now and show me a preview. I do not code.

What it does:
- Let me enter a date, food name, number of servings, and protein, carbs, and fat in grams per serving. Calculate totals for the entry and the day.
- Let me set my own daily targets for protein, carbs, and fat. Show progress against those targets and an optional estimated calorie total using 4 kcal per gram of protein, 4 per gram of carbs, and 9 per gram of fat.
- Let me edit or delete an entry and move between dates. Start with an empty day and clear instructions for the first entry.
- Keep the interface simple and usable on a phone. Do not invent nutrition values or recommend calorie targets; I will enter the numbers myself.

Data: Save entries between visits if this Artifact supports storage. Add Export JSON and Import JSON so I can back up my log. Do not connect to an external food database or send my entries elsewhere.

Before you finish, test two entries on the same day, a change in serving count, editing an entry, moving to another date, and importing a backup. Tell me clearly if any requested feature cannot work here.

The shopping list

Group groceries by aisle, tap items off, and stop zigzagging around the shop.

Create a working interactive Claude Artifact called “Shop by Aisle.” Build the app now and show me a preview. I do not code.

What it does:
- Let me add an item, quantity, and aisle. Start with Produce, Bakery, Pantry, Fridge, Freezer, and Household, and let me add or rename aisles.
- Group my list by aisle so I can walk through the shop in order. Let me set my preferred aisle order, tick items off with one tap, and see how many items remain.
- Let me edit and delete an item, move it to another aisle, and clear completed items only after a confirmation.
- Make the list easy to use on a phone, with big tap targets and a helpful empty state.

Data: Save my list between visits if this Artifact supports storage. Add Export JSON and Import JSON for a backup. No account, external database, or sample groceries mixed into my real list.

Before you finish, test adding three items in different aisles, reordering aisles, ticking one off, editing another, and importing a backup. If something cannot work here, explain what and offer the simplest working alternative.

MAKE THE FIRST VERSION YOURS.

If a button doesn’t work or something is missing, stay in the same Claude chat. Be specific about what you tapped, what happened, and what you expected.

The [name of button or feature] isn't working the way I need.
I did: [exact steps].
What happened: [what I saw].
What I want instead: [the result].
Please fix only this issue, keep my existing features, and test it again.

Then try the app with real use cases: an empty day, an incorrect number, a month change, and an exported backup. Only keep using it once those work.

One useful distinction: A Claude Artifact is a quick personal tool you can create in a chat. If you later want a customer-facing app with accounts, shared data, payments, or dependable long-term storage, that is a bigger build.
